Runnin' Down a Dream

Tom Petty inspired us all when he wrote Runnin’ down a dream!  Chasin’ mysteries, while familiar for him, is also a familiar tune for our family. We’ve gone where the wind blew, chased a thousand dreams in hopes of building something great and magical. Often our hopes were dashed and all we built were pipe dreams. Nonetheless, deeply ingrained in our souls, has been the unwavering desire to do the unexpected, to follow the stirrings in our hearts and go where the road less traveled may lead.

Once upon a time, there was a little family of 5, who ran down a dream. We sold everything we owned and traded normal life for one in an RV. Our children watched the dream explode and take on a life of its own. It’s sort of no surprise that those babes of ours are chasing their own dreams.

Two of our daughters are giving their all to find their place in the music world.  And you know this road can be crazy... filled with potholes and setbacks. My oldest daughter is 27, and I know there are days when she feels like, what the hell am I doing here? But she committed herself to give this until she was 30 and I commend her for following her dream.  There will be no regret later in life. Yet while others are building foundations of brick, my girls feel a bit like they are building sandcastles, but they are committed and they are literally rubbing shoulders with possibilities!

I’m all too familiar with this feeling. For the first 10 years of our own lives, Glen lost 12 jobs. The loss felt staggering. It was hard to feel like any dreams could ever come true and then one day the crazy idea came and a company was born!

I hate watching my babes struggle but I have to tell you how much I believe in them and their dream. If anyone deserves to make it, they do. They have the talent, the skills, the desire, the passion, the ability and the fire! They write like machines and the music pouring from their souls is genius! I believe it’s just a matter of time! I know that they belong to me, but they seriously got the goods! They are beautiful, they got talent oozing from their pores and they write music that is worthy of being heard. They are just one person away from the big time! Great things are happening and you know how it goes. Meanwhile the struggle is real.

Before you decide what to do, go listen to their music. And here's a clip of them singing

Friends, my two angels in Nashville are struggling. This Mom and Dad have been helping all we can. Quite a lot actually and we can't do it all. Sometimes I feel I’m not too far from needing help myself so I feel their pain acutely. My two angels share one car and the little blue Honda CR-V is having some troubles. No car, no work basically! I’m asking all my ReThrive friends to make a purchase today! All proceeds from today’s online sales will be donated to them! I won’t keep a dime! Click here to shop!

I know how giving you all are! I’ve watched you support Rock the Dogs, Tazzy Fund and our company. You’ve given and purchased over and over, so I’m being ever so careful to not make you feel like we don’t see it. We do and you have our deepest gratitude.  If you’d consider making an order today, we’d be so grateful. We love you all and we thank you for how much you’ve supported our work and mission. Thank you in advance!

How Long Will it Last?

How long will what last, you ask?  I've often written about depression and mental health, because it's not uncommon to wonder how long a spell of depression will hang around.  It's a beast.  You can read about how depression feels in another post I wrote. (click here)  But that isn't the purpose of this post.

Instead, I'd like to address a few points of concern from customers.  Every once in a while someone has a concern.  Most of the time the feedback is so amazing that we artists forget that everyone won't always be happy.  While we do our best to please, we know that sometimes everyone won't or can't be satisfied, but we try anyway.  Thankfully the concerns are few and far between.

So, in an effort to address these issues, I thought that perhaps it's necessary to give you some of the details regarding wear-a-bility, materials, etc., in a blog post.  Let's begin with materials discussion.  Throughout the past nine years, we have learned a lot …

Re-purposing Vintage Hifi cabinets

These are three vintage stereo cabinet makeovers that my husband and I have repurposed.  They make great storage units, not to mention they are colorful and beautiful.  The coral one is my absolute favorite.  The addition of the waverly fabric is a perfect finishing touch.

Below left: this cabinet had a complete front face which we removed and then added the three spindles back into the middle for support.  I have since moved this to my studio for stowing away my jewelry cases after each show.  The smaller turquoise cabinet houses files and extra printer paper.

Business and Burdens

Today is one of those days when life has come crashing in all around me.I feel myself sinking beneath the load of frustration, stress and disappointment. I can't win at life from the popularity contest standpoint. For me, I have never been able to break that barrier and it has not really bothered me.Every once in a while, though, I feel the desire to soar and to be the one people talk good about.I'd like to have the world see me for who I am and even more I'd love for every person I know to wear a piece of our jewelry. I'd like the words I write and the pictures I post to get tons of likes...seriously, why else do it, right?!I often don't get the response that I seek and some times it gets the best of me and sends me into a bit of a tizzy.And...if you are honest, you might feel the same way too. Here we are just trying to stand out and make our place in the world. It can be so frustrating!
